The Australian Defence Force is to operate Quantum-Systems' Scorpion UAS from 2025.

Quantum-Systems-Inc--Vector eVTOL sUAS

eVTOL aerial intelligence solutions specialist Quantum-Systems is to deliver a small uncrewed aerial system (sUAS) to the Australian Defence Force (ADF), with shipment of the Vector/Scorpion platform to commence in April 2025.

The award of two contracts under DEF129-SUAS (formerly Land 129 Phase B) are worth an estimated AUD $90 million (US $61 million), incorporating aircraft and associated training, maintenance, engineering, supply and logistics, and support services. The aircraft will be used to deliver “real-time, high-resolution video for  surveillance and reconnaissance missions”.

Under the arrangement, Quantum-Systems will provide the ADF with its Scorpion UAS, which the manufacturer describes as “ideal for dynamic and smaller-scale ISR missions in urban environments where manoeuvrability and stationary hover is required to provide real-time situational awareness”. Its patented 2-in-1 system can see the platform reconfigured as the fixed-wing Vector eVTOL without any changes to the avionics hardware.

Quantum systems adds that the Vector eVTOL UAS a “rucksack portable solution” that can be operational in three minutes; able  to take off and land in confined spaces without the need for additional tools or equipment.

“We are honoured to be selected by the Commonwealth of Australis to equip Army combat teams with our advanced sUAS that will provide them with the enhanced situational awareness and increased force protection they require,” commented David Sharpin, executive officer of Quantum-Systems Inc.
